Spam, spam and more spam

Thanks to Seth (Hard a Starboard) and Skipjack, One Happy Dog Speaks and all the others who have offered suggestions on dealing with the bombardment of spam. I will be looking into protecting myself with some of the software suggested, but for the moment at least the closing down of comments on the older posts seems to be helping. At least the spam comments are thinning out a bit as the spambot hunts for ever older posts.

As John Paul Jones is said to have proclaimed - "Sir, I have not yet begun to fight!"

"Sir, I have not yet begun to fight!"

LOL. You have no idea (actually, you now do) how frustrated and angry I was becoming back in late 2006 and early 2007 at the deluge of spam I was getting, Gray Monk. The spambots are merciless, their "owners" are a profound study in invasive excrementalism whom I, personally, think should be taken out and boiled in hot water on national television, with their pitiful families dragged out to watch.

I was so PO'd and frustrated that I was about ready to stop blogging, and then I was saved by the great Phin (I mean, GREAT!), who introduced me to (and installed for me) Akismet Spam.

It works, it filters out those wankers -- man, I love Brit terms, which is probably why I enjoy novelists like Jack Higgins, Len Deighton -- Bernard Sampson books as well as great stuff like "Goodbye, Mickey Mouse" and "Funeral In Berlin", Leslie Charteris (the Saint), Adelaid Manning & Cyril Coles (Manning-Coles, Tommy Hambledon novels), etc.

At any rate, I'd definitely give Akismet Spam a shot.
